Los Angeles Wedding Photographer: Wilkinson Wedding at Kohl Mansion

Although I am a Los Angeles wedding photographer I always love the opportunity to travel – and this was no exception! Dean and Nicole’s wedding at Kohl Mansion in San Francisco was truly spectacular and so individual. I flew up from Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon for the wedding the following day. This proved to be so helpful as I was able to get to know the families and wedding party the night before at the rehearsal and dinner after. Dean and Nicole were so relaxed and laid back and had planned every detail of their wedding themselves. Nicole taught herself calligraphy and made these gorgeous name cards for the guests by weaving delicate flowers and thistles through the card to compliment the bridal bouquet. A lovely homemade touch to this whimsical wedding.

This was an extra special wedding day because sixty years ago on the 11th October, Dean’s Grandparents, Gillian and Neville were married in England. To honour this incredible anniversary Nicole and Dean asked me to photograph them with Dean’s Grandparents and show a close up of their hands. Such a special day and a true inspiration to us all.

Before the wedding day gets into full swing I love taking the time to capture the bride getting ready shots and along with the detail shots of the dress and the flowers. Desiree Green not only did the brides hair and makeup but also created the most beautiful and unusual bouquets. I loved the colour and texture created from combining the spiky thistles with the delicate flowers.

I knew the venue was going to be gorgeous but when I saw it for myself it exceeded my expectations – Kohl Mansion was a photographers dream! Beautiful wood panelled rooms with light streaming through floor to ceiling windows that looked out onto beautiful gardens. I was spoiled for choice on locations and in an ideal world would love to be able to slow time down and try out every possible location of this exquisite place.
