Creative Portrait of Cirque Du Soleil’s Atherton Twins for
“California Dreaming: Real Life Stories of Brits in LA” coffee table book
This portrait was one of the most memorable of my career! I first met Andi and Kevin Atherton when I saw them in IRIS at the Kodak theatre here in LA. Their act was graceful, emotional, athletic and choreographed so beautifully. I knew immediately that I would like to include them in my book about my fellow Brits following their dreams to LA.
I had been to this rock pool years ago and thought it was the perfect location to photograph them – taking them out of their normal environment and into nature with a vision of a “Lord of the Rings” style portrait.
Creating this portrait was quite the event – we hiked for about a mile carrying all out cameras and lighting kit, yoga mats, and provisions. It was a privilege to photograph these two incredible athletes balancing on a rock in Malibu. Seeing them balance right in front of me was mesmorizing and a small crowd of hikers wondered what was going on!
I couldn’t be happier with the end result – it’s everything I hoped it would be and more. Andi and Kevin called it “Breathtakingly beautiful”. Thank you to Andi and Kevin and my team for making this portrait possible.
