Cancun
This was my first ever destination wedding – and wow – what a location. I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. We were in Paradise! Luckily for me, I arrived Friday evening and stayed until on Monday afternoon with the wedding taking place on Sunday evening so I had plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere at this luxury five star ( all inclusive!! ) resort. Fifty guests flew in for this wedding with a few flying in their own private jets! Everyone soon relaxed into the beach atmosphere quickly getting used to being served cocktails on the beach and at the divine “swim-up” pool bar!
The day before the wedding, whilst swimming in the azure warm waters of the Caribbean sea, we had our wedding meeting and discussed the fine details. This is how meetings should take place – what can beat floating in the Caribbean sea with white sandy beaches around you while sipping a pina colada?! This was not to be a stressful wedding – quite the reverse!
The setting was perfect – a simple white canopy on the beach, from which hung the most stunning cross made from individual crystal beads. This was handmade for the groom by his best friend who also took on the task of organizing the wedding! The bride and groom both wore ivory in this casual beach ceremony. The Bride looked absolutely stunning in her classic ivory dress with stylish slit up the leg and barefoot in the sand! The wedding took place early evening and was absolutely beautiful. We planned to take the group shot immediately after the ceremony and to use a ladder to get the required shooting height. But things don’t quite go to plan in Mexico!! We had requested a ladder many weeks ago, but it never appeared….so we had to improvise! So I gathered the guests by the waters edge, all distracted by this point with cocktails and appertizers in hand! I tried to do this as quickly as possible in order to save the golden light of the evening for the Bride and Groom portraits. You know when you’re at a Hollywood wedding, albeit in Cancun, when the movie director Michael Bay comes over to help with the group shot! As this was a Hollywood wedding with many connections in the film business I decided it would be fun to create a movie poster for Rachel and Michael.
I want to thank Candace for being such a wonderful lighting assistant without which the evening couple portraits would have looked completely different, and our shoot would have ended much earlier! Thank you to all involved.
